AstroNav contains a comprehensive list of bodies to magnitude 10 or, slightly beyond the limit of standard binoculars. The coverage and detail displayed is optional. The goal was to provide one step beyond the needs of navigators which places it above much software available to astronomers. Multiple sights can be plotted while allowing for interim changes in course and/ or speed. Avoiding the simplifications of printed tables increases accuracy significantly. Once an altitude and bearing has been entered, a list of potential bodies will be offered according to criteria set by the user. The observed body can be identified from the altitude/ bearing so that a single visible star can be used for a position without needing to identify it first. The comprehensive list of stars increases the number of potential bodies from the 57 for which data is normally available to at least the 280 of equivalent brightness. Ambiguous sights will be instantly apparent. The position used can be generated using a voyage plan, single track or a fixed position can be used. The Voyage Plan can be used to generate tracks from positions or tracks can be used to generate positions. Speeds/ ETAs can be entered or calculated. The Star Atlas can zoom in to display approximately 1° x 1.5° on the screen. Bayer/ Flamsteed designations are provided for over 3,400 stars together with 1,541 names for over 500 stars. Henry Draper, Hipparchos Tycho and GCVS designations are also available. Data for the Sun, Moon and Planets can be displayed over a period. Sunrise and twilights can be generated for a month or voyage.Almanac pages can be printed as a backup. These are in conventional format and include twilights etc.Magnetic Variation data is provided between 1600 and 2020.Eclipse data/ diagrams can also be generated for the full range of dates; 9999BC to 9999AD.
